Predator in Action
Pseudonaja guttata
This speckled brown snake was making a meal of a young knife-footed frog in a specatacle that is best described as a feeding frenzy. After every major rainfall event on the black soils of the Barkly, metamorph frogs emerge from shrinking pools just in time to avoid total dessication, and the snakes are never far behind. Dozens or even hundreds of snakes congregate around these drying pools to catch the froglets, consuming dozens in a single day.
