Eastern Rockhopper Penguins

These eastern rockhopper penguins were seen on an outcrop off Auckland Island, seemingly demonstrating their social hierarchy. These penguins are one of our favourite subjects due to their charming looks and cheeky behaviour. Eastern rockhoppers are found on the New Zealand sub-Antarctic islands, as well as Macquarie Island, though their numbers are much diminished due to introduced predators and a depleted prey base.
