Burton's Legless Lizard
Lialis burtonii
This is Australia’s most widespread reptile, occurring in just about every habitat other than closed canopy rainforest. Despite this, they are rarely seen, and even then are often confused with snakes. This lizard is non-venomous, to catch its favorite food—other lizards—it instead has a hinged jaw, allowing it to firmly grasp wriggling prey before swallowing them whole, in a similar manner to a snake.
