Savannah Glider
Petaurus ariel NT, Northern Territory, Top End
Until recently, these small gliders were known accross Australia as sugar gliders. Genetic testing eventually revealed that the populations in Far North Queensland, the Top End and Kimberley, and more southerly regions are all distinct populations. The species we are lucky to have in the Territory is now known as a savannah glider, and is slightly smaller than the sugar gliders found in other states.
