Hordes of inquisitive penguins greet visitors to Macquarie Island. These royal penguins – named for their crown-like crest - only breed on the island, making them a true-blue Aussie species. These animals see few enough people that we were a point of interest to them, a strange curio worth investigating. To take this image I simply lay on my belly and waited for the penguins to approach me.
