Green pythons are in fact yellow at birth (or red in parts of PNG), they retain the yellow colouration for several months before transitioning to green over the span of week or so. In Australia the species is confined to rainforest areas in the northern parts of the Cape York Peninsula, such as the Iron and McIlwraith Range, possibly Lockerbie Scrub and coastal areas connecting these habitats.
