Fish Trap
Crocodylus johnstoni
Australia’s northern monsoon brings abundance to the wetlands. At a remote causeway in the Northern Territory, floodwaters created a feeding bottleneck, and this freshwater crocodile reaped the rewards. As fish were swept into the flow, the crocodile simply waited, snapping its jaws on passing prey. Leftover tarpon scales clinging to its teeth bear witness to its successful strategy. Using a long exposure, I highlighted the energy of the rushing water, the milky textures contrasting the sharpness of the crocodile’s teeth, emphasizing its sit-and-wait predatory nature.
