Cockatiels are the smallest member of the group of birds known as cockatoos, they inhabit arid parts of Australia, where they are often seen in huge flocks. In the wetter Top End, these birds appear towards the end of the dry season as they chase after ever shrinking water holes in a bid to stay hydrated until the summer rains fall bring life back to their more southerly haunts.
