Buller's albatross are one of the most vibrant albatross seen in Australia and New Zealand sub-Antarctic waters. This close portrait was captured off the back of a ship well south of Stewart Island. Albatross are sometimes attracted to ships, and have been seen variously as symbols of good or bad luck for centuries.
