Northern dwarf crowned snake

One of my best photos of a snake feeding. This Northern dwarf crowned snake is feasting on the tail of a skink (Glaphyromorphus sp.) after an epic battle which concluded when the lizard shed its tail. I'm curious whether the snake was genuinely attempting to predate the entire lizard - which would have been a huge prey item - or whether it intended to cause the skink to shed its tail. I have observed geckos (Hemidactylus sp) grabbing onto and shaking other geckos tails until they drop them, at which point the aggressor eats the shed tail. Unfortunately It is difficult to answer such questions when they relate to such infrequently observed species.
